Long ago, the dragons, horses, felines and wolves of the land came together and made a treaty, that none would ever attack the other. But soon, a group made up of creatures of all three kinds broke the treaty, and chaos spread. One wise dragon learned of the perpetrators of the attack, and had them rounded up. To ensure the peace, she banished them, sealing them away behind an invisible divide. Anyone who tried to cross, by foot or by wing, would be stopped, suddenly, by a great wall of crystal that seemed to materialize out of the air. The side to where the troublemakers had been banished became known as the Side of Night, while the other side was known as the Side of Day.
For many years after that, there was peace. The creatures forgot the incident, but the lands remained exasperated, young creatures always warned not to venture too near the Crystal Divide. But one day, a young filly traveled too near the Divide-but instead, being stopped, she passed through to the other side. The mother panicked, but soon the filly was back on the side, passing through the divide as if it wasn't really there.
Soon, it was discovered there was a crack in the divide, a rift that creatures on either side could pass through. They have now begun to travel between both sides. While neither side is completely good, nor completely evil, neither is exactly thrilled at the idea of strangers coming to their homes...
