In the wild, many horses were being taken from their native homes. Then they were being forced to work for man. Some horses enjoyed this, being able to build a strong connection with something. Most horses tried to avoid it but ended up well-off if they were caught. These capturings were done by wranglers. Men and women who rode into the wild horse's terrain on horseback and swung ropes at the franticly galloping beasts. This was simply a game to them. Some horses did it for the thrill.
However some horses did not like this at all. They felt the humans were bearing down on them and were stealing their land as well as taking away their herds. These horses formed a rebellion. They hide up in the cliffs, living in caves. Whenever the wranglers come they bear down onto the fields where they reside, mixing with the horses frantically trying to get away and attack the wranglers. These horses believe the ground below where others walk is tainted. That they should avoid it as much as possible.
Some horses stand strongly against these rebels and when met with one they will fight them to their death. They raise their young and herds to believe they are evil and if met with one they should kill them.
Others are neutral and teach their children and their herds the way of both sides, allowing them to choose their path on their own. Some simply stay out of the way and act on the side of whichever their lead stallion belongs to.
Which side will you choose? What will you do if faced with the choice?
